Chrissy Metz’s Weight Loss Journey Is Still Going Strong in 2026 — Here’s What Changed

Even Chrissy Metz’s most devoted fans weren’t fully prepared for the story that emerged from the photos taken when she entered the Variety Power of Women event in Nashville in May 2025. One hundred pounds were lost. Just a few weeks prior, she told the Daily Mail that it was not rumored or conjectured. The woman who had played Kate Pearson on This Is Us for more than ten years—a character whose relationship with her own body was ingrained in the show—had accomplished something subtly remarkable. Her life had been transformed by her. She then demonstrated to everyone that it had stuck when she entered the Tonight Show set in 2026.

This place has a lengthy and sometimes uncomfortable history, which makes it important. Metz has said that she has always been heavy; she was born that way and was never conscious of it. She experienced periods of increased activity, years of playing sports, and years of being thinner, but the weight followed her into adulthood and Hollywood, where it was met with conflicting reactions. She was required by contract to lose weight when she was cast as Kate on This Is Us in 2016 because the character’s plot required it. The fact that a network negotiated a woman’s body size into a television contract along with her salary is a detail that is difficult to forget, but she discussed it in public and without apparent resentment.

The demands of the show did not align with the timeline of what she actually did with her health and when. She claims that a panic attack at the age of thirty was the catalyst for her to begin considering her weight as a physical issue rather than merely an aesthetic one. The change did not happen right away. Years passed. Lifting instead of running, which she has joked about with the self-aware humor that has always made her watchable, became the anchor. Heavy lifting that is methodical and steady. She has stated that she wants to age well and be strong, which is a different goal than wanting to be thin, and her appearance in recent photos reflects this.

The 100-pound loss that made its debut at Nashville had become her standard by 2026. She was making several TV appearances in a single day in New York while wearing a form-fitting green dress. In July, she appeared on The Tonight Show and presented the same outcomes to a nationwide audience. Observing the accumulation of these appearances gives the impression that she is truly relaxed in a way that some of the earlier red carpet moments—even the ones where she appeared confident—didn’t quite capture. That might just be a matter of time and experience with public life. It’s also possible that the mental shift that preceded the physical change is related in ways that she has explained quite clearly.

Notably, she has taken care not to present herself as an inspiration to anyone. She was open about never having volunteered for that position when People questioned her about the body positivity movement and her role in it; she talked about it because interviewers asked, not because she designated herself as a spokesperson. Although it sounds semantic, her current framing is health-positive rather than body-positive. She is not promoting any specific size. She is fighting for the ability to climb a flight of stairs without difficulty, for gaining muscle that will last for decades to come, and for making thoughtful, rather than anxious, food choices. Although it’s a more subdued message than the one the internet occasionally requests from her, it appears to be the most truthful.

It’s difficult to ignore the fact that in 2026, discussions about Chrissy Metz have almost completely moved away from the weight itself and toward her future endeavors, such as the wine company she co-founded, her Instagram-documented trips to Broadway, and her rapidly expanding career. That may be the most intriguing aspect of the entire narrative. Even tho the weight loss is significant, it ends up being insignificant.
