Sitting in a consultation room at a laser eye clinic, reading the laminated price list on the wall, most people experience the same quiet jolt. The numbers are higher than expected. Then again, they’re also lower than a lifetime of glasses and contact lenses — and that calculation, once it properly sinks in, is what tends to push people toward booking.
Eye laser treatment cost in Pakistan varies considerably depending on what kind of procedure you’re having, which city you’re in, and how advanced the technology at the clinic actually is. Standard LASIK — the most widely performed option — typically runs between PKR 50,000 and PKR 150,000 per eye. That’s a wide range, and the difference between the lower and upper end typically reflects actual differences: the equipment’s age, the surgeon’s experience, the extent of pre-operative screening, and whether or not aftercare is included in the price. A PKR 50,000 quote and a PKR 150,000 quote are not necessarily offering the same thing with different branding.
For patients who want a bladeless procedure, Femto LASIK comes in somewhere between PKR 120,000 and PKR 250,000 per eye. Contoura Vision — a more advanced, topography-guided approach — is often offered as a bundled price for both eyes, typically between PKR 140,000 and PKR 240,000. ReLEx SMILE, which costs between PKR 150,000 and PKR 300,000 per eye and employs a minimally invasive procedure without a corneal flap, is at the top of the market. Since it’s the most recent widely accessible option, the premium might be a reflection of both the novelty and the technology. The older surface-based PRK procedure, which is sometimes advised for patients with thinner corneas, typically costs between PKR 30,000 and PKR 130,000 per eye; it is less glamorous, requires a longer recovery period, but is still effective for the right candidate.
A thorough eye examination and corneal scan, which together cost between PKR 7,000 and PKR 9,000, must be considered before any of these procedures. These aren’t optional extras — they’re the step that determines whether you’re even a suitable candidate. Not all of them are. Patients with persistent dry eyes, thin or irregular corneas, autoimmune conditions, or unstable prescriptions are generally advised to hold off. Pregnant women are excluded as well, since hormonal shifts can affect corneal shape. It is advisable to proceed cautiously with any clinic that forgoes the comprehensive pre-screening in order to expedite the booking process.
Insurance rarely covers this. Across Pakistan, laser vision correction is classified as elective surgery, meaning the full cost lands with the patient. Because there is no safety net in case something goes wrong or a follow-up procedure is required, the pricing discussion becomes more consequential than it might otherwise be. It’s worth asking clinics directly what their enhancement policy is and whether retreatment is included if the outcome isn’t quite right.
Speaking with those who have undergone the procedure gives me the impression that the financial calculation only provides a partial picture. Most of them describe the physical reality of being able to read a clock across the room without needing glasses when they wake up the day after surgery as subtly shocking. The numbers actually point to that moment, which is unremarkable to those who have never worn thick lenses but remarkable to those who have. Whether the investment makes sense depends on where you’re starting from, which procedure fits your eyes, and whether the clinic doing it is genuinely equipped to do it well.
